Man charged over speedway crash that killed 18-year-old

A man who allegedly struck and killed a teenaged spectator at a speedway in regional Victoria has been charged with dangerous driving and reckless conduct.

Police allege the 28-year-old was behind the wheel of the car that struck an 18-year-old Pimpinio man at a motor sports club in Burrong Basin Road at Stawell in November.

The spectator died at the scene.

The man, of no fixed address, was arrested on Monday morning and charged with dangerous driving causing death, reckless conduct endangering life and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

Officers also laid charges over a separate incident which occurred on Friday where the man allegedly lost control of a car and crashed through the garage of a property on Learmonth Road in Wendouree, causing major structural damage.

He was charged with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and failing an oral fluid test over that incident.

He was expected to front Ballarat Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.
