A middle-aged P-plater has been arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a three-car crash on a busy inner-city road, having already collided with a police car.

The 48-year-old is due to face a Sydney court on Friday charged with dangerous driving over the crash in the city's inner west.

Police conducting a random breath testing operation on The Crescent at Annandale spotted the stolen Porsche SUV about 3.30pm on Thursday.

The driver allegedly hit a police car as he fled when officers approached at a service station on Victoria Road at Rozelle.

The Porsche was found abandoned a short time later on Darling St after crashing into two other cars.

A Toyota Corolla could be seen crumpled between a Volkswagen SUV and the Porsche, the crash bringing onlookers out of stores and pubs along the busy strip as school students on their way home watched on.

The driver of the stolen Porsche was arrested nearby and allegedly tested positive for cannabis in a roadside check before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital for assessment.

He was later charged with stealing the Porsche, dangerous driving offences and hindering or resisting police.
