A woman has been killed and several other people injured in a stabbing rampage at a shopping centre in the southern Russian city of Krasnodar, authorities say.

The victim was attacked by a young man who randomly attacked people with a knife, police said.

Unofficial reports said at least five others were wounded.

"The perpetrator has been arrested and police are currently questioning him," Irina Volk, a spokeswoman for Russia's interior ministry, said in Moscow.

Investigators have ordered a psychiatric examination of the suspect, authorities said.

No further details about the attacker or his motives were immediately released.
