Fire rages through home in Ballajura, man in his 40s treated

A house has been destroyed in an early-morning inferno that triggered a major emergency response in Perth’s north.

Emergency crews were called to Ballajura where a fire was surging through a residential home just before 4am on Monday.

The house was completely taken over by fire by the time DFES crews arrived, with St John Ambulance also responding and treating a man in his 40s.

Two adults and two children were home at the time but managed to evacuate in time.

An electrical fault with a heater in one of the bedrooms has been blamed for causing the fire.

One of the owners was breastfeeding when her husband noticed smoke and raised the alarm, getting everyone out before fire took hold, 6PR reported.

The family alerted the neighbours and called Triple-0.

A St John Ambulance spokesperson said one crew was deployed and took a man to Joondalup Health Campus. He is being treated for smoke inhalation and minor facial burns.

Extensive damage including a collapsed roof and blown out windows has been reported.

A DFES spokesperson said nine crews attended and the fire was controlled by 4.45am before being extinguished by 6.13am.
