Geraldton’s high schools bagged titles across various sports at the 2026 Senior High Schools Country Week tournament last week.
The School Sport WA Country Week Championships attracted more than 4000 students from 60 schools to compete across five days, making it one of the State’s biggest school sporting competitions.
Four schools — Geraldton Senior High School, Geraldton Grammar School, Geraldton Christian College and Champion Bay High School — won a combined eight titles with teams entered in seven sports.
Geraldton Grammar had an excellent run, with their A-grade basketball boys side defeating Bunbury SHS 37-34 in the grand final. The C-grade boys soccer also beat Karratha SHS 3-0.
Both netball teams won their respective division, with the D-grade side beating SEDA 37-20, and the H-grade side defeating Hope Christian College 38-15.
The Geraldton Grammar boys cricket side fell short, coming runners-up in the B-grade grand final as Australind claimed a seven-wicket win.
Geraldton SHS also delivered a strong showing with a 38-16 win over Cape Naturaliste in the C-grade netball, while the C-grade boys basketball defeated Champion Bay High School 35-31.
The girls’ volleyball side also beat Hope Christian College 2/42-0/27 to win D-grade.
From Geraldton Christian School, the C-grade touch football side bagged an 8-3 win over Grace Christian College, while their B-grade girls’ soccer side came runners-up to St Luke’s College in Karratha with a 2-1 grand final defeat.
In E-grade boys volleyball, Tom Price SHS were stronger in the decider, handing them a 2/42-0/20 loss.
Champion Bay’s top results came through its basketball sides, with the boys C-grade team finishing first on the ladder with seven wins and one loss before falling to Geraldton SHS in the grand final.
The E-grade girls’ side also made the third place play-offs, but fell 29-8 to Kearnan.
Other notable results from the Mid West included wins to Carnarvon Community College and Central Midlands in the E-grade and F-grade girls volleyball and runners-up to Jurien Bay District High School in G-grade Netball.
