Dumbleyung Lawn Classic 2025 reached capacity as more than 140 players competed in the doubles tournament

Tennis courts were at capacity when more than 140 players from around WA competed in the 2025 Dumbleyung Lawn Classic at the weekend. The tournament’s 25th year brought men’s, women’s and mixed double teams to compete over two days with 144 players taking to the courts. On Saturday women’s A-grade doubles held a nail-biting finish between Bellinda Devine and Cathy Oats and Narrogin team Alti Le Roux and Maria Knott. The South Mandurah duo of Devine and Oats finished victorious after a countback. In the men’s A-grade doubles Narrogin’s Trevor Eastwood and Safety Bay’s Trevor Johnston emerged victorious on a countback over runners-up Angus Armstrong (Toolibin) and Chad Davidson (Kukerin). Mandurah competitors Jordan Bowen and Hayley Potts took the B-grade victory from Wickepin runners-up Jo Priest and Nikki Evans. C-grade champs Danielle Roache and Heather Salmeri from Boddington celebrated their win against South Mandurah’s Wilma Bentley and Cherry Goodwin. Goodwin and Bentley were awarded best dressed on the court in matching Mini Mouse inspired team outfits. A special mention was given to Mitch Wray and Ryan Hough for their stereotypical old-style tennis attire. Narrogin locals Jason Eastwood and Zander Wilkie claimed the men’s B-grade spoils from Wagin pair Wade Longmuir and Will Tann. South Mandurah’s Lee Goodwin and Linton Bowen took out the men’s C-grade honours ahead of Narrogin’s Andrew and Peter Kirby. The competition was close on Sunday with more countbacks required to decide the winners in mixed doubles. Johnston took another win as he partnered with Knott to claim grade 1 from Jodie Martens (Tambellup) and Chad Davidson (Kukerin). Grade 2 winners were Albany’s Sam Lee and Jake Becroft in a thrilling tiebreaker over runners-up Marshall Henry and Jane Smith from Dumbleyung. Tyler and Jess Caldwell were victorious in grade 3 over Evans and Kendal Ballard. Narrogin’s Zander and Evelyn Wilkie beat Dumbleyung’s Candice and Jon Ward in grade four while father and daughter duo Clare Atkins and Howie Ward from Dumbleyung prevailed over A-grade women’s doubles winner Devine and her mixed teammate Tom Holben (Cowaramup) in grade 5. Grade six winners Jaime Frost and Leonie Nolte from Dumbleyung proved to be a force downing runners-up Annemieke “Meeks” Ingram and Tommy Moss.
