If you find yourself hoping to outrun the police this holiday period — don’t even try.

Police officers from the Harvey and Yarloop stations are in shape and feeling leaner than ever following a weight loss quest that aimed to promote health and wellbeing.

The challenge was organised by Yarloop police Sgt Wayne Byram in October and finished this month.

Each officer set a weight loss target and the team had the final weigh in last week.

Three officers lost more than 10kg each and the combined weight loss mass exceeded 67kg.

Sgt Byram said it was a fun way to train as a group and look after their physical and mental health.

“A lot of people use excuses, but it is important to prioritise your health and look after your body,” he said.

He said the 10-week program had officers doing weights, running laps and walking around town.

“We hope it sets a bit of a positive example for the community, training in a group provides a lot of encouragement and support.

“Exercising has a lot of physical and mental health benefits and this is a springboard for continued health and wellbeing.”
