Residents are urged to make their voices heard by voting in the local government elections on Saturday.

Five people have nominated to fill the four vacancies on Waroona Shire Council, while 11 people have nominated to fill the seven vacancies on Harvey Shire Council.

Postal voting packages were sent out over the past two weeks and almost 200,000 completed ballot papers were returned within the first six days.

“To allow time for mail delivery, it is important for electors to post back their ballot papers now, without delay,” acting electoral commissioner Chris Avent said. He said if people were not able post their vote on time they needed to return their ballot to council offices in person before polls close at 6pm, Saturday.

For Harvey this is the council office on Uduc Road in Harvey, and for Waroona Shire residents this is the council office on Hesse Street, Waroona.

More information is online www.elections.wa.gov.au or the electoral commission’s local government election call centre on 1300 661 136.

All candidates for the Harvey and Waroona elections were contacted for comment and those that replied were included in an overview in the Reporter last week.
