Exclusive: Ex-president with school links jailed for child sex crimes

The former president of the Yarloop Bowling Club, who was last week imprisoned in relation to serious child sex crimes, has been revealed to have links to a local high school. Frederick Peter Duplessis pleaded guilty to several child sex offences when he faced Perth District Court on November 10. The convictions included more than a half a dozen counts of sexually penetrating a child under the age of 16 and persistently engaging in sexual conduct with a child under 16. Duplessis, pictured, was heavily involved in the Yarloop Bowling Club up until this year. He was also listed as being a workplace learning host for Harvey Senior High School. In a statement, the Yarloop Bowling Club confirmed Duplessis was no longer the president or a member of the club. “The Yarloop Bowling Club was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the terrible atrocities inflicted ... by former member of the club/committee Fred Duplessis,” the Facebook statement read. “Our hearts go out to ... and (their) family and we pray that no one else has or will ever be subjected to him again.” Duplessis was registered as being self-employed as an individual/sole trader. His business was activated in 2001 and operated in Yarloop. In a Harvey Senior High School newsletter from 2012, Duplessis was listed as being an employer for the school’s workplace learning program. In a Yarloop newsletter from 2015, Duplessis was quoted to have “put his hand up” to do the lettering on a sign at Yarloop Primary School, saying it was “not a problem”. Duplessis pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years and six months imprisonment.
