Famous burgers prove popular in Harvey

Briana FioreHarvey-Waroona Reporter

The Lions Club in Harvey has whipped out the iconic barbecue for a good cause.

The club has committed to making the famous Lions burgers every Friday night at the Harvey Bowling Club. For just $8 people can get their hands on a whopper of a deal, with the funds set to go back into the community.

The Lions Club is one of many charity groups that have taken a financial hit this year due to the cancellation of events.

The Harvey Agriculture Show day usually brings in much-needed cash for the group, which it can then put towards helping others.

With no show days, the club has been restricted to wood raffles and decided to partner with the bowling club to maintain its presence in the town.

Lion Chris Hughes said the initiative had already proven popular with the locals.

“People flock to club to play lawn bowls and enjoy a good meal,” he said.

“It is all about helping each other out and being there for the community.”

Lion Frank Lo Grande said he enjoyed getting back on the barbecue post COVID.

People are welcome to collect takeaway burgers from the club on Fridays or stick around for a drink and some lawn bowls.
