Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault’s Ty Anderson named on Fremantle Docker’s 20-player COVID contingency list

Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault 2021 best and fairest Ty Anderson is one step closer to realising his AFL dream after being named as one of Fremantle’s COVID top-up players for the year, as clubs across the country continue to lock in their 20-player contingency lists. The South Western Times reported early last month Anderson was on the move to Peel Thunder for the 2022 season in a bid to take his football to the next level. The speedster then impressed the Docker’s when he was given the call up late last month to fill a spot in their intra-club practice match. HBL president Tristan Maslin said Anderson’s selection on the contingency list was a reward for his work ethic. “Ty was always the first one at training last year, putting in the work and determined to be the best he could be,” Maslin said. “He’s obviously taking that work ethic to Peel and the Dockers have seen him through their alignment and like the look of him. “It’s a great reward for a young guy who has put in so much work over the last 18 months that no one has seen.” Maslin said he had no doubt that the 21-year-old could do a job at AFL level if required. “We have always rated him very highly internally,” Maslin said. “Obviously, it’s a step-up if, but if something happens and he gets called upon he will equip himself excellently because he’s got the determination to be the best he can be .” Known for his pace at SWFL level over the past three seasons, Anderson told the South Western Times after the intra-club match the tempo was the biggest adjustment he had to make. “It was a good opportunity, I learnt a lot out of it,” he said. “It was very quick, fast-paced. They have the way they want to play and I just needed to adjust to that. “It was good to go round and have a run with some of the top quality athletes in the State.” Anderson is yet to play a game for Peel but is hopeful to get a league call up for when they begin their season against East Fremantle at Lane Group Stadium in Mandurah on April 16.
