Junior swimmers from the Australind Swimming Club have come home with podium finishes at two competitions held in recent weeks.
Tahlee Cam, 11, Jay Pfoeffer, 12, and Lynlee Stiffle, 10, competed at the School Sport Australia swimming championships at Sydney Olympic Park last month, as well as the Swimming WA Junior Short Course Championships held last weekend at HBF Stadium.
Jay was the standout performer of the club’s contingent in both championships, bringing home three silver and three bronze medals from the nationals before snagging seven gold and one silver medal in the States.
He admitted he was not anticipating the wins.
“It feels really good,” Jay said.
“I wasn’t really expecting it.”
Across the two competitions, Jay broke country WA records for the 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.
Tahlee won four gold medals in the State championships, breaking her personal best records by five seconds on two occasions and two seconds in another race.
Lynlee also managed seven personal best performances across her races, despite facing difficulties with injury in the State championships.
Australind Swimming Club coach Taarna Cam said she was “super impressed” with the results, with her attention now turning to the club’s next big challenge.
“My next big goal is to get my senior swimmers to nationals in April,” she said.
When asked about what they wanted to achieve next, Jay said he was hoping to keep getting medals in national competitions and breaking country WA records, while Tahlee said she wanted to focus on improving her placings in races.
