Leschenault have claimed their biggest victory of the BDCA first grade season with a thrilling final-over win over Marist. Marist sat top of the table and elected to bat against the fourth-place Green Caps, but Leschenault made inroads early to leave the in-form side 4-46. A middle-order rally got the visitors to 4-113 before Thomas Buchanan (2-25 off 7) and Shehzad Gondal (1-42 off 9) combined for three quick wickets to have Marist on the back foot at 7-153. Despite losing consistent wickets, Marist managed a competitive 8-194 from their 50 overs, with Brody D’Agostino having a day out, taking 3-28 off 9 and claiming an important runout. Once again the powerful Steve Denison got the Green Caps off to a good start, blasting 67 off 42 to combine with Tyne Dodds for an 84-run opening stand. The momentum then swung back towards Marist as Denison, Dodds (16) and Buchanan (4) were dismissed in a period where the visitors took 3-4. Matt Fink (31 off 103) work hard and combined with Nico Le Roux (24) to give the home side a chance. Jacob Templeton took strike against Jack Wilson in the final over of the match with eight runs needed for victory. Wilson bowled a wide first ball before Templeton hit two twos and a four to hand the Green Caps a 2-wicket win with just three balls to spare. Meanwhile, in the Wyllie Cup, Waroona have continued their dominance with another bonus-point victory, this time over Shoalwater Bay. Shoalwater Bay won the toss and elected to bat and started steadily before they lost three wickets in four balls to slump to 4-39. A lower-order resurgence from 7-58 to 10-129 gave the Shoalwater Bay bowlers something to bowl at, but it was never enough. Waroona lost Nicholas Milligan (8) early before the almost infallible duo of Ben Wright and Nic Rep combined for a 95-run stand. Wright was dismissed for 41 and then Matt Thomas was run out for a duck, but Rep held strong, finishing on 76 not out alongside Jayden Derosa (6 not out) as Waroona passed the total three wickets down.
