Leschenault Progress Association awards $6000 in grants to three not-for-profit community organisations

A residents association in the Harvey Shire has given back to the community in more ways than one, with other organisations set to benefit. The Leschenault Progress Association awarded grants to three not-for-profit groups within the Greater Bunbury region last week, with a total of $6000 being handed out. Secretary Karen McCarthy said the association felt proud to be fortunate enough to help other groups. “The LPA represent the community of Leschenault and raises funds for projects within our local community, that will benefit our residents and community of Leschenault,” she said. “Most of these funds are raised by our management of Settlers Hall, which is a highly-utilised facility, and therefore we can return some of the money raised back to benefit our local community of Leschenault.” Lot 208 Youth Inc in Australind was among the organisations to receive funds from the association. It is the only not-for-profit youth services provider in the Shire of Harvey, providing weekly sessions at the Australind base, along with school holiday programs and excursions. Centre manager Avani Shah said the grant would go towards the costs of hiring a bus for its members to spend the day at Adventure World, which had not occurred since early 2020. “I’m very thankful because the LPA is also a not-for-profit organisation, helping other not-for-profit organisations,” she said. “That’s a very big thing for us that we have found someone to support us ... (and) we know they are very much in the same line as we are, working for the community.“ The other grant recipients are the In Town Centre, which will use the funds towards providing Christmas hampers, and the South West Refuge to allow it to provide services to those in need. The association has previously made donations to other community organisations.
