Two motorists have been caught speeding “extremely carelessly” at the exact spot a man was killed in a crash just months earlier. A female driver was last week clocked driving 122km/h in a 90km/h zone along Honeymoon Road near Yarloop as she made her way up to Perth. It came just one week after a male motorist heading to Bunbury from Mandurah was caught driving 132km/h in the same 90km/h zone on the same street. Honeymoon Road claimed the life of a 60-year-old man on February 23 after his Holden Commodore and a Ford Falcon, driven by a 24-year-old, collided just before midnight. Yarloop police officer-in-charge Sgt Wayne Byram said neither of the drivers caught speeding had given a valid explanation for breaking the law. “It’s just that two extremely careless speeders were apprehended at the same spot and it happened to be the spot where there had previously been a fatal accident some weeks before.” Sgt Byram said police were doing whatever they could to discourage speeding and keep the roads safe. He said if weather conditions were bad, drivers should immediately drop their speed to ensure they did not cause danger to themselves and other road users. “We’ve recently had the fatal accident in Boyanup, and it is subject to more accidents than many WA roads throughout the South West,” he said. “I urge the public to drive to the conditions, and one of the common things we get is that people are unfamiliar with the roads; road signs are the same Statewide. “Stick to the speed limits, drive to the conditions, and keep yourself and other road users safe.”
