New members ready to discover library’s treasures

In an effort to promote reading during the school holidays, Harvey Library signed up pre-primary and Year 1 students from St Anne’s as library members last week.
The excursion, organised by pre-primary teacher Louisa Sgambelluri, was a way to introduce the emerging readers to all the library has to offer.
“Reading is an essential and enjoyable activity,” Ms Sgambelluri said.
“Students need access to books to continue to improve their reading skills, especially over the long Christmas break.
“All of these students are now Harvey library members which means they have access to reading material throughout the year.”
Harvey’s principal librarian Ruth Campbell-Hicks showed the students all the many facilities available at the library and informed them of the up-coming school holiday activities.
“There are a range of activities throughout the school holidays happening at the library including letters to Santa, Christmas craft, story time, and a visit from West Oz Wildlife,” Ms Campbell-Hicks said.
“We’re very lucky to have a library full of wonderful books here in Harvey, and the staff are always more than happy to help you find something that you will enjoy reading.
“After all, the more books the read, the better you’ll get at reading.”
