A burn-off at a residential property which got out of control burned through 8ha of bush and farm land in Roelands earlier today.

The fire was first reported at 11.30am.

Ten fire fighting appliances and two water bomber planes were deployed to the fire which burned between Raymond Road, Chidlow Way and Forrest Highway and came within 100m of homes.

DFES firefighters helped brigades from Myalup, Leschenault, Bunbury, Eaton, Brunswick and Roelands to bring the blaze under control by about 2pm.

Harvey Shire deputy chief bushfire control officer Mick Papalia said the landowner conducting the burn-off alerted authorities as soon as the blaze got out of his control.
