St John Australind receives $50,000 in training equipment through Albemarle’s financial contributions

A donation from a major lithium producer has enabled an Australind emergency services group to buy new training equipment. Albemarle’s near-$50,000 contribution to the St John Australind sub centre through the St John Giving program has resulted in it acquiring two new resuscitation training manikins. The state-of-the-art equipment, also known as ‘Anne dolls’, have been specially fitted with IV delivery tubes to train regional paramedics and community volunteers on administering IV drips. St John Australind manager Lee Headland said the sub centre was “extremely grateful” for the funding. “These simulation manikins replicate a wide range of vital signs from palpable pulses to precise blood pressure measurements, accurate breathing rates and realistic chest sounds,” he said. “By incorporating scenario-based training with these manikins, volunteers gain the valuable opportunity to practice conducting comprehensive patient assessments and apply their clinical judgment prior to engaging with real patients.” Albemarle country manager Beverley East said the sub centre provided a vital service. “(We) value the important work of regional paramedic teams, including St John staff and volunteers based near us at Australind,” she said. “Any investment that could potentially save a life is worthwhile, and as a company we are committed to the goal of serving both people and planet.” Ms East said the company had strong international connections to health services, producing speciality equipment used in devices such as pacemakers, glucose monitors and defibrillators.
