Support for rising stars
Today is the deadline for applications for a sports program that helps young people take their game to the next level.
South West athletes wanting to pursue a career in sport can apply for the South West Academy of Sport’s 2019/20 Individual Athlete Support Program.
The program is open to teenagers between 15 and 18 excelling at their chosen discipline and offers young sports men and women the high-level support they need for daily training.
SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said the program was aimed at helping local talent to take the next step on their sporting pathway.
“We aim to assist athletes make the transition from State to national or national to international,” she said.
“And we do so by providing access to high-level support right here in the region athletes call home, reducing the need to travel.”
As part of the holistic range of services offered by SWAS, athletes can access high-performance coaching and training as well as service providers such as sports psychologists, physiotherapists and nutritionists.
To be eligible for consideration, applications must meet the criteria set out in the application form.
