The Australind and Districts Seniors variety show is set to have audiences castaway to Gilligan’s Island

A fateful tale will have audience members casting away to an uncharted desert isle as the Australind Senior Citizens get set to perform their re-imagining of the television classic Gilligan’s Island. The variety show, titled Castaways, will feature live music plus singing and dancing as well as lots of references to the story of the SS Minnow and its special group of passengers. Show producer and director Eileen Depiazzi said there were more than 20 cast members including seven dancers, with the audience taking part in some of the final songs. “It’s a big cast and they’re really enjoying the songs, and bringing the old songs back, it’s a good social event for seniors and families. “You never know what’s going to come up next and it keeps it interesting, there’s lots of action to keep the audience interested.” Earlier this year the group performed an adapted version of the Wizard of Oz with a turnout of about 100 Australind and other local residents. Ms Depiazzi said the seniors really looked forward to coming along and the show was great for their memories, with roles ranging from managing props to music and sound. “We’re very lucky to have the pianist this time, one of the shows we had to do with just the sound man and we just sang in a karaoke style,” she said. Saturday’s show will include a meal as well as a raffle, with matinees taking place on the Sunday, Tuesday and Sunday after.
