Will the new gym be Harvey’s first 24-hour service?

Harvey could soon have its first-ever 24-hour service, after the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre revealed its new gym. The project was last year brought forward as a response to COVID and is a huge win for the Harvey community. Planned improvements to the gym are also set to allow the facility to be used 24/7. Centre manager David Marshall said the renovations increased the capacity by 40 per cent. “It was so crammed before, but the ceilings have been lifted and the whole room has been extended,” Mr Marshall said. “It is now disability friendly and can fit a wheelchair comfortably.” He said it had been pumping and was used by people of all ages. “We had a lovely 94-year-old lady in the other day,” he said. Mr Marshall said the new facility had spiked gym memberships — a positive sign after spending two months shut last year in the COVID lockdown. Harvey Shire president Paul Gillett said he’d used the gym and was impressed with what it had to offer. “I think I’ve worn it out already, but I love that there’s something for everyone,” Cr Gillett said. “It’s great for the town.”
