A Kalgoorlie-Boulder business owner has been fined $3000 for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol without a licence when he picked up an injured employee to take them to the hospital.

Tyson James Saxby-Walsh, 42, appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to driving an unlicensed vehicle, and driving while disqualified and under the influence, on June 15.

The court was told Saxby-Walsh owns a local drilling business and had been drinking with colleagues when one of his workers arrived at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport but needed to be taken to the hospital.

Defence lawyer Olivia Pusey said Saxby-Walsh was aware his licence had been disqualified and that his car was unlicensed but made the decision to transport his employee anyway.

Saxby-Walsh was fined $3000 for the three offences, and ordered to pay more than $500 in related costs.
