A retired Nollamara couple are swapping economy for business class on their next trip to the UK after pocketing a life-changing $1 million lottery windfall.

The pair struck division one in Millionaire Medley and already know exactly how they will spend the cash — flying in comfort to visit their daughter before helping her buy a home.

“I’ve always said I wanted to win $1 million and help out the kids,” the man, in his 70s, said.

“We were already going to the UK to visit one of our children, now we will be able to go in comfort and help her buy a home when we get there.”

The couple are regular Lotterywest players, each sticking to their favourite Mirrabooka outlet.

The husband buys his tickets from Mirrabooka Millions during the couple’s weekly shopping trip, while his wife prefers Mirrabooka Lucky Charm.

The pair were socialising when his wife noticed online that Mirrabooka Millions had sold a winning ticket.

“We were all joking that we might have won but didn’t really think anything of it,” he said.

The joke became reality the following day when he returned to the store and discovered the winning ticket was his.

“It was really great to share the moment with the staff in store when we realised it was my ticket,” he said.

His wife admitted that she was sceptical when her husband rang with the news.

“He sounded so calm, it was hard to believe it was real,” she said.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Jennie Fitzhardinge said the win was life-changing for the couple.

“Winning $1 million is life-changing and it’s wonderful to see this Nollamara couple using their prize to support their family and create special memories overseas,” she said.

The winning ticket is the third division one ticket sold by Mirrabooka Millions in the past seven months.
