Boyup Brook consolidated their position in the top four with a comfortable 39-run victory over Pemberton on Saturday.

Batting first, Boyup Brook got off to a shaky start with opening bowler Nick Mills (2-43) getting two early wickets with only 16 runs on the board.

Braydon Ridley (48) and Tristan Mead (81) then combined to put on a 114-run partnership, taking the score to 130 before the introduction of John Starkie (2-19) saw the demise of Mead and Ridley both caught in the deep by the sure hands of Brendan Peet.

When Tim Hutton threw down the stumps from side-on to run out Craig Keenan (7), Pemberton looked a chance to restrict Boyup’s score to less than 200.

Todd Carroll (30) and Cameron Marsh (16) with some late order hitting got Boyup back on top, taking the score to 224 at the end of their 45 overs.

Mead finished as top scorer for Boyup Brook with a typical swashbuckling 81 off only 49 balls with Ridley second best with 48, while Starkie and Nick Mills were the best of the bowlers with two wickets each.

Pemberton’s run chase began well enough despite losing Stephen Mills early (2), and at 1-49 a good platform for the victory target had been laid.

The loss of Starkie (9) brought Brendan Peet (11) to the crease and with Peter Bamess (72) they took the score to 106 off 30 overs.

With the required run-rate climbing to about seven runs an over, Pemberton’s batters had to take on the bowling and this proved beyond their capabilities, losing five wickets quickly for the addition of only 26 runs.

At 7-132 it was basically game over but Captain Riley Liddelow added 22 to push the score on to 185 at the completion of Pemberton’s 45 overs.

Best of the bowlers for Boyup Brook were Cameron Marsh (3-14) and Jacob Maw (2-20).

Peter Bamess top scored with 72, with his running between the wickets being a feature.

Next week Pemberton take on Northcliffe at Pemberton and Boyup Brook take on arch rivals Bridgetown at home.
