Men linked to Alameddine crime family charged after alleged violent brawl with police
Five men linked to the Alameddine crime family have been arrested after allegedly brawling with police at a petrol station in Sydney’s west.
NSW police officers from Raptor Squad noticed two men were not wearing face masks – in breach of the Public Health Order – outside a service station in Guildford about 4pm on Friday.
The men, who are associates of the Alameddine network, allegedly became aggressive towards police.
Police will allege one of the men punched an officer, which led to a struggle.
Both men were arrested before three others arrived in a vehicle and allegedly began making threats towards the officers.
More police arrived on scene and the three men allegedly struggled with other officers before their arrest.
Video footage captured by a bystander shows police grappling with one of the men and wrestling him to the ground as police cars swarm the area.
A knife was located in a vehicle and seized for forensic examination.
There were no reported injuries during the incident.
Two men were taken to Granville Police Station and three others were taken to Auburn Police Station.
Raptor Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Jason Weinstein said the five men who allegedly assaulted, threatened and intimidated police.
“I make no apology for the actions of the police who acted within the bounds of the law,” Superintendent Weinstein said.
“If you associate, facilitate or participate in a criminal group you should expect police to be watching you – ensuring every move you make in the public domain is acceptable and consistent with everyone else in the community.”
Three men – aged 21, 19 and 22 – are facing a raft of charges that include resist arrest, harassing and assaulting police and failing to comply with carrying a face-covering direction.
They were refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
A 20-year-old man was charged with hindering police, failing to comply with carry face covering direction and not complying with Covid protocols.
He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court on September 30.
Another man, 20, is under police guard in Westmead Hospital and is expected to be charged upon release.
