An impressive field of golfers flocked to Narrogin Golf Club last month to contest for three titles — the Farmers Centre 4BBB, the CRISP Wireless Narrogin Cup, and the inaugural Narrogin Cup Junior Competition.
Despite heavy overnight rain, conditions proved favourable for the weekend, which kicked off on July 17 with the Farmers Centre 4BBB.
A strong field of 116 men and women competed in the event, which saw Cuballing Golf Club’s Braydon Cutri and Kade Maley emerge net winners with an outstanding score of 48 points.
Narrogin pair Ron Coppock and David Maibibi followed in second position — with Coppock reflecting on the fact he had taught the winning duo how to play the game initially.
Cuballing Golf Club also produced the gross winners of the competition, with Scott Ballantyne and Lindsay George finishing on 35 points, and Narrogin’s Brett Coxon and James Nicholson the runners-up.
There was a twist in the 2026 CRISP Wireless Narrogin Cup, with men and women combining for a single 36-hole stroke competition played from the same tees, which NGC captain Eric Hall said was “well-received”.
Simon Vogel claimed the coveted cup with a net score of 142, on countback from Don Alexander and former Narrogin resident Chris Gow, who finished third.
Sue Short made club history as the first woman to secure a major placing in the event, coming in fourth.
Narrogin junior Aaron Pedlar’s score of 159 earned him the CRISP Wireless Dave Mayfield Trophy, which is awarded to the best gross score over 36 holes.
He edged out Scott Ballantyne, who finished one shot behind.
Regular participant Dean Matters won the Betta Electrical-sponsored trophy and TV for nearest the pin on the 18th hole.
The inaugural 18-hole Narrogin Cup Junior Competition was widely considered a success and was inspired by the recent revival of junior coaching at NGC, championed by Carol Hardie, for whom the trophy was named.
Eight junior golfers from Katanning, Cuballing, Northam, Narrogin and surrounding clubs competed, with Northam’s Xavier Sibley prevailing.
NGC captain Eric Hall said it was a memorable weekend of golf, community spirit and innovation.
“Reflecting on the weekend, Narrogin Golf Club was delighted with the strong participation, competitive golf and community support on display across all three events,” he said.
“The club looks forward to building on the success of the combined cup format and growing the junior competition in future years, while continuing to provide opportunities for golfers of all ages and abilities.
