St John WA seeks local applicants for training role in Narrogin to provide critical support to Wheatbelt

St John WA is looking to fill first-aid trainer positions across the Wheatbelt in three strategically vital towns including Narrogin as need exceeds capacity. First responders play a critical role in emergency response throughout the region and St John WA country first aid manager Dan Andrew is calling on community members to step up. “We’ve resorted to dispatching trainers from Perth at times to keep up administering vital first aid education to regional and remote communities,” he said. “The goal is to have first-aid trainers strategically located in all our regional centers. “We know people come to these centralised locations for other essential services, so to have a local who is a part of the community delivering our training would be fantastic.” St John WA first-aid trainer Rachael Robinson said the role provided her with flexibility, opportunity and diversity. “As a certified scuba instructor by trade I’ve always had a passion for first aid,” she said. “What I appreciate about my role as a first-aid trainer is the flexibility it provides — I can seamlessly work my role around my other work and personal life. “I have the opportunity to travel to various communities, including mine sites, rural farming companies, schools, and a wide range of other businesses and community groups.“ Applicants need to have Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or an equivalent qualification, a current driver’s license, knowledge of first aid guidelines and regulations, and a desire to make a difference. “I love teaching a wide range of people as it allows me to contextualize first aid to different needs,” Ms Robinson said. “The work varies significantly, transitioning from farm and mine site environments to office-based settings.” Mr Andrew said that the skills St John WA trainers dispense have a big impact on the outcome of accidents and emergencies. “We can provide key knowledge and exposure to first-aid scenarios,” he said. “But we need local community members with a passion for educating the community.” Further information and applications can be made via the St John WA website.
