East Pilbara residents embrace healthy living with Million Moves Challenge
The Shire of East Pilbara’s Million Moves Challenge is in full swing, with residents logging their daily movements and taking part in a series of free community events aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles.
Running until September 21, the challenge encourages participants to log 75 “moves” per day — activities as simple as walking the dog, stretching at work, swimming, or playing with the kids.
The initiative is designed to help participants develop lasting, healthy habits through regular physical activity.
To support the program, the shire is hosting a range of free recreational activities, including pickleball, basketball and badminton nights, all open to community members looking to stay active and engaged.
A wrap-up event will be held on September 21 at the Newman Aquatic Centre, with free pool entry for registered participants, pool inflatables, a free low-impact body-weight program, tug of war and a community barbecue.
Shire president Anthony Middleton said the campaign was a great opportunity to encourage healthy, active lifestyles while bringing people together.
“We are excited to be part of this national initiative and to see the East Pilbara community leading the way,” he said.
“This is about building healthy habits that make us feel better, connect us as a community and support long-term wellbeing.”
