Each year on November 11, Australians pause to remember the service and sacrifice of those who have fought for the nation and Perth will hold ceremonies across the city where locals can reflect, remember and pay tribute.

This year marks 107 years since the Armistice that ended the First World War. The ricocheting impact of past wars continues to be felt; ahead of this Tuesday’s Remembrance Day, there’s been a call to help identify World War I Diggers who were found in a mass grave in France.

Melbourne amateur historian Lambis Englezos drove efforts which led to the 2008 location of the grave containing remains of 250 men lost since 1916. Since the discovery near the French town of Fromelles, the remains have been reburied in a new cemetery, and named where their identities could be established.

But 70 await identification and many are thought to be soldiers from WA.

While the official commemorative service will be hosted by the Returned and Services League in Kings Park, there’s plenty of other local services that West Aussies can attend across the city. See our full list below.
