A day trip to one of Kakadu’s most celebrated lookouts has ended in tragedy, with a woman in her 30s dying at Ubirr as police work to determine what happened.

Northern Territory Police said the woman died on Wednesday on the western side of Ubirr Lookout, a landmark known for its ancient Aboriginal rock art and sweeping views across the Nadab flood plain.

“The full circumstances surrounding her death are not yet known and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” NT police said.

It is understood the death is being treated as non-suspicious.

“My thoughts are with their loved ones at this difficult time,” Ms Boothby said.

Ubirr is among Kakadu National Park’s most visited attractions, drawing travellers to its renowned rock art galleries, easy walking track and elevated lookout, which is a well-known spot for sunset views across the park.
