Homegrown success and innovative toothbrush business making waves in global market

Bunbury mother of two Jessica Lewis has become a homegrown success in the space of a year after creating an award-winning business from scratch with an innovative toothbrush. As founder and owner, Ms Lewis said her award-winning Glowly Sonic Toothbrush was created after the birth of her child in 2021 when she realised she needed to include self care into her everyday routine as a working mother. “I realised that time for self care and appointments, it was very very limited,” she told the Times. “I started thinking about ways I could incorporate some self care into my daily routine without having to carve out extra time. That’s when I realised oral care was so boring and clinical and I could come up with a way to make it luxurious and fun.” “I wanted to create a product that was really feminine to change the way that we experience the everyday chore of brushing your teeth.” So Ms Lewis set out to do just that. Coming in a baby pink colourway, the aesthetic was front of mind when it came to designing a toothbrush that would make women feel beautiful and empowered while brushing their teeth. “I wanted to create something pretty and feminine that would look good on the bathroom counter,” Ms Lewis said. “Our toothbrush is the only one on the Australian market to have a 200-day battery life, so you don’t need to have unsightly cords and chargers on the vanity.” It features five different brushing modes so the individual can tailor their brushing experience, has a pressure sensor and a replacement brush head reminder that flashes after 180 uses. There is also a cleansing brush attachment that targets blackheads and build up and helps massage the face. “It’s also made from antibacterial silicone which provides a more hygienic option to facial flannels or using your hands,” Ms Lewis said. Her business was inspired by a background in the health and beauty industry, including time spent in a teeth-whitening business. The process of moving from a service-based business to a product-based business was challenging but rewarding, Ms Lewis said. “We launched in 2023 and we won the oral care product of the year award for a women’s e-commerce competition,” she said. “We were also selected as a top-10 finalist in a global beauty product category in another competition. “So from the initial concept to the launch of the product was two years. I was juggling mum life and wanting to build this brand. “Having no real background in e-commerce, it has been a real challenge to learn the ins and outs of creating a product-based business. “We have a strong focus on female empowerment and wanting people to feel confident and empowered when using our products, incorporating self care into a everyday health and beauty routine.”
