Kalgoorlie artist Jason Dimer starts cultural tours to share local heritage and arts

A slice of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s heritage and local arts scene will be in the spotlight during new cultural art tours in the heart of Kalgoorlie.

Internationally renowned artist and cultural consultant Jason Dimer has branched into cultural art tours with his new business, Kalgoorlie Aboriginal Cultural Experiences.

Offering two-hour cultural and art tours for visitors and locals alike, Dimer shares his unique perspective of Kalgoorlie’s history and culture as the guide during the tours which take place in Kalgoorlie’s CBD.

As an artist deeply connected to his heritage and the Dreamtime stories of his people, Dimer said he was excited to share his stories and pass on the information he had learnt.

“There are years of accumulated family knowledge and information that needs to be shared across all generations and audiences,” he said.

“We have a written history that is taught in our schools and mainstream platforms, but we also have an unwritten history that will always be passed down alongside this through art, stories and song.

“I am that artist, I am that storyteller and I am that conductor. That is what I am here for.”

Starting at the iconic Paddy Hannan statue on Hannan Street and finishing at the Museum of the Goldfields, the 3km tour allows people to explore the town’s heritage at a comfortable pace.

Dimer worked closely with Australia’s Golden Outback Goldfields tourism development manager Donna Malec and West Australian Indigenous Tourism operators to get the tours up and running.

Ms Malec said she had enjoyed watching Dimer’s idea come to fruition and believed it would not only be useful for tourists, but also for locals to learn more about their home.

“The tour curated by Jason is truly exceptional, offering captivating insights into the cultural history behind his artworks,” she said.

“These tours present an exciting prospect for tourism in the Goldfields.
