Ratepayers will be slugged with a 4.2 per cent rate increase across the board next financial year should the City of Kwinana’s proposed rating categories pass come budget time.

The city’s proposed differential rating categories were passed at the April 24 council meeting.

Ratepayers have been invited to submit feedback on the 4.2 per cent rate increase from May 1.

The vote to advertise the latest rate rise comes after last financial year’s rate rise of 3.95 per cent.

A rate rise of 4.2 per cent would see residential, rural and vacant property rates rise from 2023-24’s $1173 minimum to $1222, a difference of $49 a year.

General industry, mining and industrial and commercial rates would rise from $1528 to $1592, a difference of $64 a year.

If the expected rate rise is passed the increase is expected to yield $51,563,393 in rates income for city services.

The proposed rates will be advertised for 21 days before feedback is taken to the city for consideration.
