The City of Rockingham is joining multiple WA local governments taking part in the 2026 WA Tree Festival, a month‑long program sponsored by the State Government with support from WALGA and Perth NRM.

Running from April 11 to May 10, the festival celebrates the importance of tree canopy cover and the benefits trees bring to creating cooler, healthier and more vibrant neighbourhoods.

Mayor Lorna Buchan said the festival was a welcome opportunity for the community to connect with Rockingham’s natural environment.

“Trees shape our neighbourhoods, they support local wildlife, cool our streets and enhance our overall wellbeing,” Ms Buchan said.

“The WA Tree Festival is a great opportunity for our community to come together, enjoy our natural environment and learn how we can all contribute to a thriving urban forest.”

The city’s 2026 program offers a mix of activities designed to help residents learn, unwind and enjoy nature, including several workshops, walks and talks.

In alignment with the festival, the city will also hold its annual native plants giveaway at Dixon Road Reserve on May 3.

Acting as a first come, first served event, Rockingham residents will be eligible to collect a 10 or five-pack seedling bundle containing a mix of groundcovers, small shrubs and clumping plants.

The giveaway was established in 2018 as a way to help residents build waterwise gardens and to help support the establishment of neighbourhood habitat for wildlife.

Due to its popularity, the event is now held annually and the amount of plants given away has more than tripled.

The five-pack bundle is a new edition in 2026, which features native, waterwise and firewise seedlings to help build a climate-resilient garden.
