Adam Jed Wright, 23, jailed for trespassing on Bunbury hot-spot and fighting with security

A 23-year-old Bunbury man banned from a popular nightclub has been locked up for scaling the back wall of the facility and fighting security staff, whilst on parole for a “serious” 2018 burglary. Adam Jed Wright appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court on Monday where he was handed a seven month jail sentence and $500 in fines relating to the two incidents. His string of charges included trespassing, common assault, disorderly behaviour in public, aggravated burglary, assault with intent to resist arrest and two counts of stealing a motor vehicle. The court was told in the early hours of October 10 last year, Wright climbed over the back wall of Fitzgerald’s Irish Bar to gain entrance to the premises after previously being banned from the club and refused entry. Security guards began evicting the man, who briefly scuffled with staff before running out the front door of the club, and fleeing the scene on foot after seeing police arrived. Four days later, the man was at the Wellington Hotel drinking with some friends, when one of the group members took to the stage, taking the microphone from the performer. Security began trying to evict the group when a fight broke out, Wright striking a security guard to the side of his face. Both incidents were caught on CCTV, and took place while he was on parole Community corrections revealed the offending put Wright in breach of an aggravated burglary from 2018, in which Wright and a group of co-accused stole a car, broke into Grand Cinemas Bunbury and stole an ATM containing $20 000. The man’s lawyer told the court the assault was not “pre-meditated” but occurred as a result of intoxication, saying Wright was unknowing of the microphone incident and had been trying to help “break up” the fight. He submitted that while the 2018 offending was “serious”, a substantial amount of time had passed since the incident - indicating Wright was now “not the person he was (back then)“. A father to a young child, Wright’s lawyer said the man now had stable employment and had turned his focus to his work and family. Magistrate Michelle Harries said prison was the “only appropriate disposition” but encouraged the man to “turn his life around”, making him eligible for parole.
