One of the founding partners of a prominent Bunbury accounting firm has stepped down after more than three decades in the role. AMD Chartered Accountants’ last founding partner Stephen Down officially left his role earlier this month, after 38 years servicing businesses in Bunbury. Established in 1982 by Cliff Anderson, Mr Down joined in 1985 with Geoff Mountford to form AMD, which has now expanded to Mandurah, Geraldton and Margaret River. The last of the three founding partners to retire, Mr Down said the decision had been a long time coming as part of the company’s succession plan. “This decision forms part of AMD’s succession planning which is something AMD continually worked on,” he said. “We’ve had three other directors successfully retire (through the plan) and we’ve structured the practice to enable that succession to happen. “Life goes on as people move through, and fortunately I have been around to assist in transitions which, after 38 years, takes a bit of time.” Taking the reigns as a director will be experienced chartered accountant Matthew McTaminey who has been part of the AMD team since 2011. Now just a few weeks into the role, Mr McTaminey said the new challenge had been “daunting but exciting”. “I’ve been with AMD for 12 years, coming on board straight out of university, and have been developing my knowledge and advice ever since,” he said. “Over that time I’ve come to understand the clients and Stephen’s high standard of servicing those clients and providing good advice. “Now I’ve been given the opportunity to take this role and continue doing the good work that he’s done for 38 years.” Working closely together throughout the past 12 years, Mr Down said he was confident in Mr McTaminey’s ability to continue the reputation of AMD. “AMD have been part of the fabric of the business community in Bunbury for 40 plus years,” he said. “We are a regional practice, and place enormous pride in supporting the regions”. “(Matthew) certainly has stepped up to the mark and shown everything that he needs to show to get the support of all the other directors in joining AMD as a director and owner and I know his fellow directors and team at AMD are a looking forward to the future with him in the role.” Not yet fully retired, Mr Down is continuing to do consulting work with AMD.
