Arcadian inspiration for artists

KATE MURNANEBunbury Herald

Two South West artists who draw their inspiration from the forest opened their exhibition in Perth on Sunday.

Monique Tippett and Greg White opened Of the Forest at the Nyisztor Studio in Melville, showcasing works which demand eye contact.

White is a well-known Bunbury artist, recognised for producing compositions that touch on the forest’s ephemeral essence of light and place.

He regularly embarks on pilgrimages deep into the karri and jarrah forests of Boranup, Northcliffe and Walpole, documenting his surroundings and collecting materials he uses for his work.

Charcoal, native beeswax, grass tree and marri resins help White produce provocative abstract works.

Tippett, who is based in Dwellingup, derives inspiration from the jarrah forest, using her furniture-making skills to create objects from native timbers.

Herworks become metaphors of her relationship with the forest.

Both artists are exhibiting amongst the finest 50 South West artists in the region, selected for the South Western Times Survey.

Nyisztor Studio is at 391 Canning Highway, Melville. Entry to the exhibition, which closes on February 27, is free.
