Australind and Districts Seniors variety show takes audiences back to 1920s for a night of murder and mystery

South West residents are set to travel back to a time of jazz, dancing and drama as the Australind Senior Citizens prepare for a night of murder and mystery. This year’s Australind Senior Citizens’ variety show, Murder at the Cotton Club Cabaret, will have audiences on the edge of their seats as they follow the story of a classic “whodunit” set in the 1920s. With a variety of tap and cabaret dance as well as live music, show producer and director Eileen Depiazzi said the show was different to the group’s previous performances and would include an original story line. “There is a clue, so the audience have to watch for that and at the end there will be a raffle draw for the person who guesses right,” she said. A transformed Senior Citizens Centre will set the nightclub mood, with separated tables decked out in a silver and red colour scheme and pin up boards coated in hand crafted dancing silhouettes. Smaller in size this year, in the wake of the pandemic, Ms Depiazzi said although they may be senior citizens the group had pulled out all the stops. “I thought I would set the nightclub mood and we have live music this year to go along with the show, there’s songs, dance and comedy, it’s a family friendly show,” she said. “I think people will really enjoy it (the seniors) have really enjoyed it and that’s the main thing, I think when the cast enjoy it that is reflected on to the audience, they pick up on the vibe.” Murder at the Cotton Club Cabaret will take place at 5pm on Saturday and Sunday May 14 to 15 as well as Saturday and Sunday May 21 to 22 with matinee performances from 1.30pm.
