Bunbury singer Codee-Lee takes home country song of the year at West Australian Music Awards

Bunbury singer Codee-Lee has added another accolade to her name, taking home a major prize at this year’s West Australian Music awards.
Last week, WAM hosted their Song of the Year awards ceremony in which the singer took out the country category with her song Smoke & Mirrors.
The song, which she describes as “moody and warm and will take you on a journey”, featured on her latest EP, Who I Am, which was released in 2021.
Last month, the Bunbury artist opened up to the Times about the making of the record and her battles she overcame that inspired it.
No stranger to the WAM stage, this year’s prize marks the 27-year-old’s second WAM award, having won regional song of the year at the 2015 awards.
WAM executive director Livia Carre acknowledged the outstanding talents of each of the nominees and winners, highlighting the depth and breadth of talent in WA.
“I am very proud of our State’s unique and talented pool of artists, especially our songwriters — it takes great vulnerability to be judged by the industry’s best,” she said.
“Each year, Song of the Year demonstrates that talent pool is growing.
“Applauding these artists, who sit at the heart of our industry, is the least we can do.”
Taking home the grand prize for the evening was Esperance rapper Dr Tasty with her song Hopscotch, also won outstanding regional song.
