Comedian Amy Hetherington to joke about all things parenting on Bunbury stage - with a baby on her hip

An award-winning comedy show that has been watched by babies across the state is hitting the Bunbury stage on Wednesday and is set to explore the “madness” of new parenthood. Fuelled by “sleep deprivation, sore nipples and weird advice” Albany-born, Darwin-based comedian Amy Hetherington’s new show will let parents laugh about all things parenting, as she performs the show with her baby on her hip. “It was written out of spite because people told me I’d have to stop doing comedy when I had a newborn because ‘I wouldn’t be able to handle it’, so I’ve been doing the show in every state and territory with the baby on my hip,” she said. “I’m so excited because it’s my first time doing comedy in Bunbury, growing up around the corner in Albany I feel like it’s familiar territory.” Following shows across the country, Hetherington said she has included baby-friendly matinees to allow new parents to bring their babies and enjoy an ‘adult show’ without worrying about their baby interrupting from home. “I wrote the show in the sleepless mayhem of having a newborn to laugh about some of the challenges of breastfeeding, birth, and new parent life, you can expect a lot of silly stories, some truth bombs about parenting and an appreciation for nipples” she said. “I think it really connects with people, I’ve been doing the show for lots of mum’s groups and brand-new parents and for some of them it’s the first ‘adult’ thing they’ve done since having a baby.” Perth comedian Cameron McLaren will be the opening act for Hetherington’s show, which will be held at 8pm on Wednesday September 14 at Froth Brewery.
