Community gathers in Eaton for Clean Up Australia Day

Volunteers in Eaton and across the country gave up their time on Sunday morning for a good cause.

March 1 marked Clean Up Australia Day, with Leschenault Catchment Council holding an event at the Eaton Foreshore.

Project officer Rachel Allan said the event was part of the Estuary Connect Program, created by community for community.

“It’s all about providing opportunities, resources and information to help people be directly involved helping the health of Leschenault Estuary through volunteering opportunities, citizen science, and interactive workshops,” she said.

Ms Allan said the community response to the event was absolutely fantastic, and it had been great to see many people and families take part.

“It’s a huge benefit to the environment,” she said.

“We’re making sure that our rubbish doesn’t end up in our waterways and is incredibly harmful, but it also really fosters that community spirit and sense of stewardship over our environment.”

Ms Allan said the LCC offered a range of other opportunities as part of the program, and encouraged everyone to get involved.
