A new social support group for Bunbury locals impacted by Dementia last week and the community “couldn’t be happier.”

Last Friday saw the launch of Bunbury’s inaugural Memory Café, an initiative conducted in partnership with Alzheimer’s WA to bring a safe space to the community for people living with dementia and their carers to meet and engage with one another.

The launch party was attended by special guest’s local member Don Punch, Bunbury mayor Jaysen Miguel and Alzheimer’s WA ceo and chairman Ella Dachs and Warren Harding.

Mr Harding said it is a “human right” for people to have access to support groups within their local community.

“I’m really pleased local member Don Punch saw the importance of the Bunbury community, it has a number of people who are impacted by dementia and what we certainly want them to do is continue to live well with joy and meaning,” he said.

“We couldn’t be happier that the Caf-fez team got on board to help bring that to life.”

It’s clear the event was a success, participant Annette Scott saying it was great to have a local resource available.

“It’s great to meet other people and learn about their situations, you think you might be the only person going through this but there’s always many more.”
