Flying into 2024: How Bunbury celebrated the first day of the year

Bunbury started 2024 in the sunshine as many families were out early on Monday to enjoy the beach and breakfast. Dozens were spotted at Koombana Bay and Back Beach getting a head-start on New Year’s resolutions, with plenty out jogging and cycling. Twins Ella and Thomas O’Brien, 7, ran amok on the Koombana Bay playground, enjoying the last of their holiday in Bunbury before heading home to Perth. For those choosing not to soak up the sun, a good breakfast was a good way to start the year. Mojo’s was packed, as many enjoyed a coffee-catch up early in the morning. “We’re flat out,” owner Noel Brunning said. Dine-in and takeaway coffees were flying out of the door as many looked for a morning boost to get their 2024 started. “We’re just out for a nice breakfast, no hangovers,” patron Rebecca Powell said. Others decided to let man’s best friend enjoy the holiday, with the dog-friendly section of Back Beach packed with pets running in the waves. “We live just up the road, it’s a great morning to be out,” beachgoer Lacey Brown said.
