Grandson can now rest in peace
An Australind grandmother was overwhelmed by the generosity of the Bunbury community after the Ulysses Club charity motorcycle ride on Sunday raised $6000 to cover the cost of her grandson’s funeral.
The charity ridewas organised by Barry ‘‘Grub’’ Kelson, who did not know grandmother Rebecca Price or her grandson, Les Price, but heard about her struggle to pay for his funeral.
Mrs Price said last week her grandson, who died in a car crash, would be given a State-funded pauper’s funeral because she did not have the money to pay for a private funeral.
‘‘It’s just wonderful,’’ Mrs Price said.
‘‘I’m overwhelmed by the kindness of people I don’t even know. I don’t know how to repay their kindness.’’
Mr Kelson said 100 motorcycle riders made their way through Nannup and the Ferguson Valley to finish at the Burekup Country Club for lunch.
Mr Kelson credited the South Western Times’ story last week, which revealed the struggles Mrs Price was facing, with the amount of money raised on the charity ride.
‘‘A lot of people got really emotional after reading that story and donated,’’ he said.
