GTM rocks Bunbury

JORDAN McARDLEBunbury Herald

The atmosphere was electric as more than 15,000 music lovers packed Hay Park for the 2012 Groovin’ the Moo music festival.

Bunbury was the final stop in the regional tour that reached Bendigo, Canberra, Townsville and Maitland.

The sell-out crowd was welcomed by blue skies and sunshine in the afternoon as Australian acts San Cisco, Big Scary and Matt Corby delighted early festival-goers.

Aussie hip-hop sensation 360 was arguably the most popular artist of the day, with thousands of adoring fans crowding in the Moulin Rouge tent to hear the budding artist belt out tunes Child, Boys Like You and Just Got Started.

Music fanatics that braved the chilly temperatures late in the night were treated to a stellar display of indie rock music from British band Kaiser Chiefs who played hit songs Ruby, ModernWay and I Predict A Riot, wrapping up the festival in tandom with German electro house duo Digitalism.

Kiwi songstress Kimbra, US hiphoppers Public Enemy and Swedish DJ Adrian Lux were also favourites among the crowd.

Bunbury police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Phil Nation praised crowds on their good behaviour.

‘‘We had some early contact with people who were street drinking but once the event got going we only had around 35 move-on notices,’’ Sen. Sgt Nation said.

‘‘If you take into account the amount of people that attended the festival, it was very much aminority of people that misbehaved.’’

Sen. Sgt Nation said there were no serious offences reported with just three people arrested for breaching move-on notices and two for disorderly conduct.

Groovin’ the Moo 2012 was once again a massive success with three of the five events Australia-wide reaching capacity.
