As the new school year draws nearer, one Bunbury organisation is starting a program to make the transition to ‘big school’ easier for the children starting their education journey this year.

Wanslea Bunbury’s Early Childhood Approach team is running a free workshop from Tuesday January 24 at the Child Parent Centre for parents and carers of students commencing in 2023, to ease the transition for parents and students alike.

Wanslea regional coordinator Jo Le Quaitermaine said the program is targeted at parents with concerns about their child coping, keeping up and fitting in at school.

“The first days and weeks of school are challenging for children and families as new routines are established. When children face challenges fitting in and coping due to developmental concerns or disability, ensuring communication lines are well established, and necessary supports are in place is very important,” she said.

“Wanslea is offering this workshop in partnership with the Child Parent Centre, as an opportunity for parents to get connected early.”

Led by professional educators, the workshop aims to provide guardians with an opportunity to understand what to expect and how to support their child through this transition period as well as ask any questions they may have in a judgment free environment.

Wanslea is a support agency committed to creating long-term social change.

Anyone interested in taking part in the upcoming workshop can register through Eventbrite.
