Perth’s ‘king of oysters’ Jerry Fraser to headline the Bunbury Volkswagen 2022 Chefs Long Table Charity Lunch

Some of the South West’s finest chefs will be joined by Western Australia’s “king of oysters” at the Bunbury Volkswagen Chefs Long Table Charity Lunch — one of the region’s biggest culinary events. It comes as the iconic Bunbury charity luncheon prepares to celebrate supporting its 100th beneficiary since the inaugural event nearly two decades ago. This year’s instalment, which is just over a month away, will feature Perth seafood legend Jerry Fraser, Market Eating House’s Brenton Pyke and Tapalicious’ Tanya Punch among a host of other local names including Erin Kitchen, Colony Concept’s Casey Harkins and Andree Haydar, who recently took her father’s business Joe’s Pizza to the city. And some of the region’s finest wineries and producers will be featuring too. Capel Vale, Saint Aiden, Willow Bridge Estate, Green Door, Harvey River Estate and Coughlan Estate will all be on the wine list, while Newlands winery Smallwater Estate will be bringing their multi-award winning shiraz and beers will be provided by Gage Roads — one of the State’s biggest home-grown brewers. West Australian supermarket Farmer Jacks has donated crayfish for the event, while the Bunbury Farmer’s market is on board for a 10th year. Harvey Cheese, Ryan’s Quality Meats and Banister Downs’ produce will also be on offer, while Saint Aiden’s Wines’ home-grown lamb and garden fresh ingredients are also on the menu. South West Refuge chief executive Ali White said the funds the organisation was set to receive from the event would have a huge practical benefit. “When women are staying in their homes and the perpetrator of family violence is removed we normally put locks on their doors and windows and install things like cameras or solar lights,” she said. “We were a recipient also the year before and we got $20,000 to install solar panels on the refuge to reduce our energy bills and use the money for other programs.” Riding for the Disabled will be a beneficiary for the first time in 2022 and board member Michael Finn said the group was “very appreciative”. “It will assist in operating one of the programs for younger people who may or may not be disabled, but are vulnerable,” he said. “We are a completely self-funded organisation so to be able to access a grant like this significantly helps to deliver the program.” The Bunbury Volkswagen 2022 Chefs Long Table Charity Lunch will be held on March 13 at the Pat Usher Foreshore and tickets can be purchased via email to tickets@chefslongtable.com.au
