South West cases continue to grow as WA records another death from COVID-19

The South West has recorded another 252 cases of COVID-19 overnight, the figures among the 8429 new cases recorded in the State as WA recorded another death from the virus. Sadly, a 90-year-old man died from COVID-19 in hospital on Monday, his death — reported to WA Health on Tuesday — bringing the State’s total to 23 people. There are 194 people with COVID-19 in hospital, nine of these in ICU. WA Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson on Saturday revealed he expects the Omicron variant to peak in in the coming weeks, leading to speculation Level 2 restrictions could extend beyond the original end-date of March 31. A raft of new South West locations has been added to the list of exposure sites on the Healthy WA website. Margaret River venues Settlers Tavern, Rio’s, Margaret River Brewhouse and the Margaret River Distilling Company were visited by confirmed cases at various times over the weekend. Swings & Roundabouts in Yallingup, The Rose Hotel and Motel in Bunbury, Colonial Brewing Co in Bramley, and the Grove Distillery and Brewery, Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co and the Black Brewing Co in Wilyabrup were also among the new exposure sites. Anyone who visited these locations at the exposure times is being asked to monitor for symptoms, and get tested and isolate immediately if symptoms develop.
