Police are investigating how a car collided with a train south of Perth, injuring two people. The incident happened just after 4.20pm on Sunday when an Audi Q7 being driven by a man in his 30s on Lowlands Road in Mundella collided with the Transwa train as it was travelling north on the South West line. The train — the Australind — was on the Bunbury to Perth service and the collision happened at the crossing between Mundijong and Serpentine stations. Thirty-nine passengers and three staff were aboard the train when incident took place. A Public Transport Authority spokesman said there were two people in the car. No one on the Australind was hurt but the occupants of the car were taken to hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The front of the Australind was damaged by the collision. Passengers remained on the train and were taken at reduced speed to Mundijong Station. They were then transferred to road coaches to complete their journey to Perth. All Australind services services between Bunbury and Perth for Monday, March 7, have been cancelled.
