Young creatives set to be selected for specialised arts program by Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre

Ten young people from the South West region will be selected to be involved in an innovative specialised arts program funded by the region’s leading preforming arts hubs. Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre is set to host Kick Start My Arts, a 12-month multi-disciplinary arts engagement program for South West children aged between 10 and 12 years old. Developed alongside BREC’s in-house artist, Nathan Gardiner, The Kick Start My Arts program includes eight weekend workshops throughout the year where children will explore different preforming and creative art disciplines and will have the opportunity to attend performances and workshops at BREC throughout the program. Final pieces will be exhibited by the 2021 Perth Festival Lab alumni along with professional artists from the South West. Participation in KickStart My Arts is free for 10 participants who will be sourced from children’s services providers including Milligan House Bunbury, Cahoots South West, South West Multicultural Society and BREC. BREC executive director Fiona de Garis said she had high hopes for the program and expected it would be a life-changing experience for the children involved. “I expect Kickstart My Arts to be a life changing experience for the 10 young people from Bunbury-Geographe selected to explore their own creativity, capacity and potential career pathways in the arts through this opportunity,” she said. “BREC’s fabulous in-house artist Nathan Gardiner has put together an exceptional team of artists from the Perth Festival Lab and the South West to run this program, and together I have no doubt they will kick open some creative doors over the next 12 months.” “Every Kick Start participant will finish by creating a project of their own in and for the community where they live and I can’t wait to see the ways they choose to light up the South West with their creativity.” The program is free for selected students and will be provided with a budget and support from BREC and Nathan Gardiner.
